What does Shasta mean by unwavering partnership?

We view ourselves as service providers to entrepreneurs. We endeavor to support and challenge the amazing entrepreneurs we back but do so in a respectful manner. We take a long-term view and are aggressive, but patient. We are there for you. It’s what we call unwavering partnership. And we take it very seriously.

Unwavering doesn’t mean that we never do anything that is difficult or push the entrepreneur. But we’re not jerks about it. It means through thick and thin, in tough times and good times, we’re going to be there. We’re going to be patient. We’re going to be supportive – not only financially but also emotionally and mentally as you go through the trials and tribulations of running building a company.

We do not make a lot of investments per year. We typically make about 10 investments per year which is roughly one and half or two per partner. And we do that in order to be very selective with the people we work with in order to have the time and bandwidth to be tremendously supportive and available to those entrepreneurs. One of the things that’s most interesting about the way we view our partnerships is that it’s really more about the actions speaking louder than the words. If you speak with our entrepreneurs, what you’ll hear is that we’re always available – any time of day or night. Seven o’clock in the morning. Eleven o’clock at night. Not that everything needs to be a crisis. But when things are really important – be in a strategic matter or something that needs immediate attention – we’re there. We work very hard at that.
